Recognition of Achievements:
We are very proud to announce that one of our students was selected to be the recipient of a young achiever’s award as detailed below.
South West ESF (European Social fund) Awards 2010 Competitiveness Young Achiever: Jade Bingham
Excerpt from the ESF website:
“Through her own experience of being a young mum, Jade wanted to become a midwife, and recognised that she would need to improve her own basic skills before being accepted onto a Further Education course. Having these ambitions gave her the motivation to tackle her lack of numeracy skills. With the help of Hedley Hall Training she has overcome numerous personal challenges and has completed her City and Guilds level 1 Numeracy and started level 2. She is currently undertaking voluntary work at a hospital and has applied for a course in midwifery, commencing in September this year.”
Jade and her Hedley Hall Training tutor, Jane Shackleton, travelled to Exeter on March 18th 2010 to receive the award.
AOC (Association of Colleges) Beacon Award
Hedley Hall Training in association with community partners and the City of Bristol College is celebrating after the College was named an Association of Colleges (AoC) Beacon Award winner. The winning project has reduced the number of young people not in education, employment or training (NEET) in the Bristol area.
The College’s ‘Education Unlimited’ project was commended by the AoC at a time when the national number of young people not in education, employment or training reached an all-time high of one million.
Award for Widening Participation
The College won the prestigious ‘Widening Participation’ award for its work with community partners to raise the motivation, aspiration and skill levels of disengaged learners by offering them support and activities that meet their specific needs.
Since 2006, nearly 2,000 young people, including ex-offenders, young parents and substance abusers, have taken advantage of the programme. As a result, 80% obtained qualifications and 60% progressed to work or further training.
Sam Lloyd, a Hedley Hall Training student, traveled to London with members of the City of Bristol College Principalship and Management to receive the award on 10th February 2010.
